Valchanov bridge

Valchanov Bridge is constructed in the times of the Turkish Yoke on the road from the town of Malko Turnovo to the town of Small Samokov (Demirkyoy) and the town of Visa (in the present-day Turkey). At that time villages on both sides of Rezovska River in the mountain of Strandzha were Bulgarian. The legend says that a wooden bridge was built with money donated by the famous in Strandzha rebel Valchan voivoda and thus it was named after him. After year the bridge is destroyed and close to the place where it was Italian masters erected a new three-arch stone bridge. With the Trasigrad peace contract from the 16th of September 1913 Rezovska river is set as a boundary between Bulgaria and Turkey. During the Second World War the bridge was mined by Bulgarian border guards and during a strong thunderstorm it blew itself up. Now two of the three arches of the bridge are destroyed, but the third in the country of Turkey is fully preserved. (Photo:http://wikimapia.org)
