Preservation Center Poda

Protected area Poda is located four kilometers south of the town of Bourgas, left from the main road Burgas - Istanbul. It is one of the few places in Europe where are identified 273 species of birds on an area of one square kilometer. Further to the exceptional diversity of birds, it is the only one on the Black Sea coast with mixed colony of white spoonbill, glossy ibis, pygmy cormorant, night, red, mane, small white and gray heron. The area Poda was declared protected in 1989 at the suggestion of Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds / BirdLife Bulgaria (BSPB), which was officially made responsible for its management. The first in Bulgaria Conservation Center as a center for conservation, education, ecotourism and outreach activities supporting the preservation of the whole complex of Burgas Wetlands was established. The center is included in the list of the 100 national tourist sites and was awarded the prize of the Henry Ford and the Association of German tour operators. (Photo: bspb.org/poda)
